Links can be used to promote specific pages/products or to simplify the navigation for your customers. In the following, you can find more information on how to add links to text via the link picker. How to add links to text You can use the formatting options to add a link to text elements of any length. This applies to all texts in the Editor of your shop where these icons are available as formatting options: and Enter the text or navigate to the text snippet you would like to add a link to. Mark the respective text.A toolbar opens above the text. Select (add link only) or (convert text to button).The link picker opens. Add a link: If you want to add an internal link to a page or product in your shop, select Pages or Products. You can then select the item you want to link to.Alternatively, you can also enter search terms in the field Enter link or search page/product to more easily find the item you would like to link to. Internal links will open in the same tab. Caution You can also select products via the link picker that are currently set as not visible in the product settings. Even if a product is set as not visible, it can still be accessed via its URL. However, it can't be ordered. If you want to add a link to an external website, enter the desired link in the field Enter link or search page/product. External links will open in a new tab. Confirm by selecting to the right of the link field. The respective text is now highlighted and linked. If you have selected , the text will be displayed as a button. Your customers will be forwarded to the corresponding product/page when they select the text/button. To change/edit the link, select the linked text part/button and select next to the link field. To remove the link, select the linked text part/button and select next to the link field or or in the toolbar. How to detect and repair a broken/dead link A broken link, also referred to as a “dead link”, is a link that doesn’t work. When customers select a broken link, it fails to take them to the intended content. There are many reasons why a link breaks, for example, if a website is restructured which caused changes in the URL. Internal links to a page/product only break if a linked content is deleted. You should regularly check if all links on your website are still working properly. For internal links, a broken link is also indicated by the following icon: . To repair a broken link, select the linked text part/button and select next to the link field. This opens the link picker, where you can add a different link. Instead of repairing a broken link, you can also remove it by selecting the linked text part/button and selecting next to the link field or or in the toolbar. Caution When deleting content in your shop, make sure to repair or remove any existing links to the now deleted content. Allowed formats for external links You can add the following types of external links to your shop: URLs to external websites.For example: www.sitename.com, https://www.sitename.com or sitename.com Links that initiate a phone call, for example when visitors select it from a mobile device.For example: tel:+1234567890, tel:01234567890, tel:+1-234-567-8910 or tel:+1 (234) 567-8910 Links that open the visitor's default email tool to send an email directly.For example: mailto:user@example.com Was this article helpful?
