Coupons

With coupons you can grant your customers discounts of these kinds:

  • A fixed amount – e.g. £5 off
  • A percentage discount – e.g. 10% off
  • Free delivery

You can limit coupons to orders for certain products or a certain time frame.

How to create a new coupon

  1. In the sidebar of the administration, navigate to MarketingCoupons.
  2. Select + Add.
  3. Enter a Name for the coupon.
  4. Under Validity, you can specify that the coupon must be redeemed within a particular period. If you do not fill in these fields, the coupon is valid for an unlimited period.
  5. Under Value you can define the value of the coupon.
    • Fixed amount: Your customer receives a fixed price reduction – €5 off, for example.
    • Percentage discount: Your customer receives a percentage discount – 10% off, for example
    • Free delivery: The customer receives free delivery upon redeeming the coupon
  6. Under Minimum value of goods, define whether the coupon can be redeemed from only a certain order value.
  7. Set how many coupon codes can be redeemed for this coupon in Number of valid coupon codes. For example, if you enter 20 here, only 20 customers can use the coupon – even if you distributed 100 coupon codes. This setting can be useful for promotions such as "The first 100 customers who order product get 50%!"
  8. Under Code valid only once, you determine whether a coupon code can be used several times or only once. For example, if you publish a coupon in a newspaper advertisement, it should be valid more than once.
  9. Select Save.

The settings have been saved. Next, you can limit the validity of coupons to certain products. If you do not want to do that, continue with How to generate coupon codes.

How to limit the validity of coupons to certain products

  1. In the sidebar of the administration, navigate to MarketingCoupons.
  2. In the table, select the name for the coupon that you wish to edit.
  3. Open the tab Products.
  4. Select the button + Assign products.
    The view Assign products appears.
  5. Assign the products you want to limit the coupon to by activating the corresponding checkboxes. If you want to assign individual variations, select the name of the main product first. For products with variations, the product name will be a link. A sub-page opens. Activate the respective checkbox for all variations you want to limit the coupon to. To return to all products, select Products highlighted in blue in the heading.
On the tab Selected elements, you can review your assigned products.
  6. Select Apply.
If you limit the use of the coupon for example to five products, the coupon is also valid if the customer orders just one of these five products.

How to generate coupon codes

Now you still have to create the coupon codes to pass on to your customers.

  1. In the sidebar of the administration, navigate to MarketingCoupons.
  2. In the table, select the name for the coupon that you want to edit.
  3. At the bottom of the page under Coupon codes you can generate the coupon codes. Select + Add.
  4. You can either create the codes manually by entering a code yourself or you can get automatically created coupon codes by selecting this option and entering the number of codes you want to generate.
  5. Select Add.

Under Coupon codes at the bottom page, you can see a table with all coupon codes you created. In the table, you can also see if a code has been redeemed and if it is still valid.

Exporting coupon codes

You can export coupon codes as a CSV file, open them with software like LibreOffice Calc, and copy all of the codes. This is especially helpful when you have many coupon codes.

  1. In the sidebar of the administration, navigate to MarketingCoupons.
  2. In the table, select the name of the coupon.
  3. At the bottom of the page under Coupon codes, select Export all.

Now you can save the CSV file to your computer. For further information about using CSV files, refer to the article Edit exported data. Note: When you open the CSV file separate by a comma.

Info

If you delete a coupon, all related coupon codes lose their validity.
If you define the period of validity for coupons, take note of any statutory provisions on the period of validity for coupons.
In the checkout, the coupon field is only shown to your customers if there is at least one coupon created in the administration area.
