How to initially export your products to Zettle

As a POS system, Zettle supports you in terms of product management. For example, by tracking your stock level. That's why you need to export all of your products to Zettle. That's how you do it:

  1. In the sidebar of the administration, navigate to Local BusinessZettle and open the Settings tab.
  2. Decide if you want to replace existing Zettle products with products from your shop.

    Info

This makes sense if you haven’t used Zettle before, do not have any products in Zettle yet, or if you sell the same product online and offline. If you already use Zettle for your local shop and offer products that you would like to sell only locally, it might be useful not to replace existing Zettle products with products from your shop.
  3. Decide if you want to include the product prices in the export.

    Info

This makes sense if you haven’t used Zettle before, do not have any products in Zettle yet, or if you sell the same product for the same price online and offline. If you would like to offer different prices in your online and local shop, it might be useful not to include the product prices in the export.
  4. Select Export all products.
The export of your products to Zettle might take a while.

Your products have been exported to Zettle. Any stock level changes (either triggered by an order in your shop or by a sale in your local shop) will now be automatically synced in real-time. To ensure that your online and offline products are always synced, you can now configure the automatic product update settings. If something has gone wrong or if you would like to start over, select the re-open the product export settings link.

It is not possible to export products with more than 99 variations and/or variations that are based on more than three variation attributes to Zettle. To export these products, you will need to reduce the number of variations/used variation attributes first.

How to keep your Zettle data updated

You can either update your product data manually or enable automatic product updates. With the initial export of your products to Zettle, you’ve already automatically ensured that your stock levels will be synced. By activating the automatic product updates, you can ensure that new products and product changes (e.g. a changed product name) in your shop are also automatically sent to Zettle. This way, Zettle is always up-to-date. The settings regarding the automatic product updates can only be made after the initial product export.

As it is not possible to export products with more than 99 variations to Zettle, any new variations exceeding this limit will not be exported to Zettle. To export new variations to Zettle, you will first need to reduce the number of variations. This applies to products that you have successfully exported in the past, but for which you have since added more variations than the limit allows.

This means that not only those variations that actually exceed the limit would not be exported, but none of the newly added variations if the total number is over 99. For example, if you add another 10 variations for an already exported product that has 90 variations, not only the hundredth variation will not be exported. In this case, none of the new variations will be exported because the total number exceeds 99. However, the 90 variations that had already been exported will still be updated if you have made changes to them.

That's how you do it:

  1. In the sidebar of the administration, navigate to Local BusinessZettle and open the Settings tab.
  2. Decide if you want to push new products and product changes automatically to Zettle (select Yes) or if you would like to update your Zettle products manually (select No).

    Info

If you want to update them manually, you can skip the next steps. The automatic product updates will not be enabled. Refer to the General tab to manually update the products and prices.
  3. If you have selected Yes, decide whether the product prices should be included in the automatic updates.
If you would like to include them activate the respective checkbox. Now, with every automatic update, the prices of your Zettle products will be overwritten by the product prices of your shop.
  4. If you have selected Yes, you also need to set the update frequency for the automatic updates in the drop-down menu. The options are Daily, Every 3 days, Weekly, and Monthly.
  5. Select Save.

The settings regarding the automatic product updates were made.

On the General tab, you can manually update the products (3) and prices (4) at any time and check when the last stock level update was done (2). Furthermore, the email address of the Zettle account you have connected is displayed (1).
