Help centre Orders Payment Set up payments via PayPal In addition to the default payment methods, you can offer your customers third-party payment methods like PayPal. To set up PayPal in your shop, you need a PayPal Business account and link your shop to PayPal to receive payments. If you have previously set up PayPal Express you can continue to use it - but it is recommended that you switch to the future-proof solution PayPal Checkout. To do so, integrate PayPal Checkout as described below and delete all PayPal Express payment methods. For further information on deleting payment methods, refer to Set up payment methods. How to integrate PayPal Checkout into your shop With the all-in-one solution PayPal Checkout, you can offer your customers to pay via PayPal, Pay Later options or Pay Upon Invoice (if available for your business), direct debit, as well as debit and credit cards. On top of this, PayPal Checkout also offers many other local payment options for your international sales. Info The feature set of the PayPal Checkout integration depends on your booked shop package.The cookie settings and/or an installed firewall application may block the redirection to PayPal/opening the PayPal pop-ups. If you encounter issues, try accepting all cookies/changing your firewall settings first. This is how you integrate PayPal Checkout into your shop: In the sidebar of the administration, navigate to Settings → Payments. Open the PayPal settings: Depending on your payment provider either select Set up payment with PayPal. Or the PayPal card. If you can't see the PayPal payment method, you may need to expand the overview first by selecting View all providers. Under PayPal Checkout, select Add. If you don't have a PayPal Business account yet, select the Create Account link in the first step of the instructions at the top of the page. To use PayPal as a payment method, your PayPal account needs to be a PayPal Business account. You can either create a new PayPal Business account or upgrade your already existing PayPal account to a Business account. If you want to offer Pay Upon Invoice, you need to register for this separately. Select Yes for Sign up for Pay Upon Invoice during connection process to do this. To sign up for the Pay Upon Invoice feature (availability depending on your location), you may need to provide additional information during the connection process. If you select No, you can still sign up for it with PayPal later. If you have already signed up for Pay Upon Invoice, it will be available to you in any case after connecting. For further information, refer to the terms of use. Select Connect.A pop-up by PayPal opens. Allow the connection.Once the process is complete, you can close the pop-up. You have integrated PayPal Checkout into your shop. You can now make further settings, for example decide if you want display a PayPal button in your basket as described under How to set up PayPal Checkout. Additionally, you can activate different payment options as described under How to activate different payment options. To offer PayPal Checkout to your customers, remember to set the payment method to visible on the General tab in your shop administration. How to set up PayPal Checkout After you have integrated PayPal Checkout into your shop, you can make further settings for this payment method: In the sidebar of the administration, navigate to Settings → Payment.All added payment methods are listed in a table at the bottom of the page. Select your PayPal Checkout payment method. Open the Settings tab. Here you have the following options: Option Description Display PayPal buttons in basket Select Yes to display a PayPal payment button in the basket. By using the PayPal Checkout button, you shorten and simplify the checkout process. If you have activated Pay Later and it's available at the customers' location, a "Pay Later" button will be shown as well. This points your customers to PayPal's flexible Pay Later options and leads them directly to them. If you select No, no additional buttons will be displayed in the basket. You customers will only be able to select PayPal at checkout. Offer Pay Later option at checkout Select Yes to display Pay Later as one of the PayPal payment options in the checkout process. By using the Pay Later button, you draw your customers' attention to the fact that they can use PayPal's flexible Pay Later options and lead them directly there. The availability of Pay Later options for customers also depends on their location. You can find more information on this at PayPal. If you select No, the Pay Later button will not be displayed to your customers. Display dynamic Pay Later Messaging Select Yes to show information about available Pay Later options on product detail pages, in the basket, and at checkout. Use dynamic messaging to let your customers know about PayPal’s Pay Later options. With these Pay Later options, your customers pay later, but you as a merchant receive your money instantly and without additional costs. You can find more information on this at PayPal. If you select No here, your customers will not automatically be referred to the Pay Later options available for the respective basket. Offer Pay Upon Invoice option in checkout Select Yes to give your customers the option to pay via invoice. If available for your business/location, your customers can pay via invoice after 30 days. However, you will receive your money from PayPal immediately after the checkout process has been successfully completed with the Pay Upon Invoice option. To do this, your customers don't even need a PayPal account. The payment is processed via Ratepay. You can find more important information about Pay Upon Invoice here (content is provided in German). To use Pay Upon Invoice, you must first register for it as described in step 5. Caution Note that you need to manually add the tracking information to the payment in PayPal after your customers have used the Pay Upon Invoice option. For further information regarding this, refer to Manage orders via PayPal. Enable PayPal vault If available for your shop, select Yes to enable PayPal vault. PayPal vault allows registered customers to securely save their payment details during the checkout process for future purchases. When PayPal vault is enabled, your customers can simply pick one of their saved payment options when making a new purchase and do not have to re-enter their payment details. The following payment options can be saved: PayPal (meaning all payment options in the PayPal Wallet), credit and debit cards. If you select No, PayPal vault will not be available for your customers. To enable PayPal vault for credit and debit cards, ACDC (advanced credit and debit card payments) must be activated in your PayPal business account. This setting can only be changed by PayPal. If PayPal vault does not work for credit and debit cards, contact PayPal for further assistance. Info If you delete the PayPal Checkout payment method and disconnect from PayPal, all saved customer data for your shop will be deleted. Select Save. You have set up PayPal Checkout for your shop. Additionally, you can decide which payment options you want to offer. For further information, refer to the section below. Info Additional settings are available from the General tab, accessible at the top of the page. Learn more about these settings in the article Set up payment methods in the section "How to edit a payment method". Caution Note that when you deactivate PayPal Checkout for your default delivery method, the PayPal buttons and messaging will not be displayed in the basket. You can check this on the tab Dependencies under Settings → Payment. For further information, refer to Dependencies of payment and delivery methods. How to activate different payment options Via PayPal Checkout, you can also receive payments via local payment methods specific to a customer's region. Note that the availability of payment options depends on the customer's country. In the sidebar of the administration, navigate to Settings → Payment.All added payment methods are listed in a table at the bottom of the page. Select your PayPal Checkout payment method. Open the Settings tab. Activate the checkboxes of all payment options you want to offer under Payment options. Select Save. You have activated additional payment options for PayPal Checkout. To offer PayPal Checkout to your customers, remember to set the payment method to visible on the General tab in your shop administration. How to switch from PayPal PLUS to PayPal Checkout As the successor to PayPal PLUS, PayPal Checkout not only offers more payment methods, like Pay Upon Invoice (availability depending on your location), but also an improved checkout. If you already use PayPal PLUS, you can easily switch to PayPal Checkout. Integrate PayPal Checkout into your shop as described in the section above and set it up. Open the payment settings page under Settings → Payments. Delete all PayPal PLUS payment methods. For further information about deleting payment methods, refer to Set up payment methods.
