Manage categories

Organizing products into different categories can not only help you to keep an overview of your products but is also helpful for your customers. You can assign products of your shop to categories, for instance, „Jackets“ or „Backpacks“. Categories that are set to visible are displayed as menu items in the main menu of your shop.

How to create a main category

  1. In the sidebar of the administration, navigate to ProductsManage categories.
  2. Select + Add.
  3. Enter the name of the new category.
  4. Under Visible in shop, specify whether the category page should be visible or not. Hidden category pages are not shown in your shop’s menu. They can still be visited if the customer knows the page URL or if they are accessed via a search engine.
  5. Select Add.

A new category has been created. Would you like to assign products to this category right away? Then open the tab Products to assign products.

To achieve a good shop structure that allows your customers to quickly find what they’re looking for, we recommend you create a limited amount of main categories. If you have a lot of products, you can also create sub-categories. This will keep your menu light and clear. You can add up to four levels of categories under the „Home“ category. For example, Home > Clothing > Jackets > Women > Outdoor.

How to create a sub-category

  1. In the sidebar of the administration, navigate to ProductsManage categories.
In the table, you can see all categories of your shop.
  2. Select the name of the category for which you want to create a sub-category.
  3. Open the Categories tab.
  4. Select + Add.
  5. Enter the name of the new sub-category.
  6. Under Visible in shop, specify whether the category page should be visible or not. Hidden category pages are not shown in your shop’s menu. They can still be visited if the customer knows the page URL or if they are accessed via a search engine.
  7. Select Add.

To create more sub-categories, repeat the steps above. The page title in your shop administration shows you the category path and helps you identify the category you are currently working on. For example, if your page title is Home / Clothing / Jackets / Women / Outdoor, you’ll know you are currently looking at the sub-category „Outdoor“.
