Help centre Get started Update from BASE to NOW Update from the Base to Now version: Checking the categories Info This article is exclusively for retailers who have been offered a switch to the Now version from the Base version in the administration area of your shop. General information about categories The products in your shop are assigned to categories – for example, "Jackets" and "Backpacks". Categories set as "visible" are shown in the main menu of your shop. The category pages of your shop display all products for the corresponding category. You can also add more content such as texts, images or videos to these pages. You can find more information about the right categories for your website in our blog article. Administration of the categories and products takes place as usual in the administration area. Content is added in the editor. The theme determines where content can be added on a page. To manage the categories of your shop, select Products and then Manage categories in the main menu of the administration area. For more information on categories in the Now version, refer to the article Managing categories. Transferring categories when updating from Base to Now The categories of your Base shop will be transferred to your Now shop, and the corresponding category pages will be created automatically. The assignment of your products to the categories will also be transferred. The content of the category pages of your Base shop will not be transferred. Hence, you may need to re-add the corresponding content in the editor. Checking category names In your Now shop, check whether the names of the categories in the menu and on the category pages are displayed correctly. Because the "Label in menu" field no longer exists, the transferred category names may be too long and might need to be edited. Checking category structure The update from Base to Now is a good opportunity to reorganise the category structure of your shop. Is it still meaningful? Are there any empty categories? Also check if the number of categories matches the selected theme. Where necessary, choose a different theme, as the main menu is displayed differently in the various templates. Editing the content of the category pages If other content (e.g. texts or videos) existed on the category pages of your shop in addition to the products, you will need to add them to the Now shop again in the editor. Select Editor from the main menu in the administration area. In the sidebar, you will now see a list of the pages in your shop under Pages. Select the category page you wish to edit. The category page in your shop will be displayed on the right. You can now edit the content. For further information, also refer to Editing the content of a page. Changing the order of the categories in the menu You can change the order in which the categories are displayed in the main menu of your shop. Select Products and then Manage categories in the main menu of the administration area. All the categories of your shop will be displayed in the table. In the Sorting column, click on the and drag the category to the desired location while holding down the left mouse button. Save your changes. Was this article helpful?
