Update from version Base to Now: checking product types

Info

This article is exclusively for retailers who have been offered a switch to the Now version from the Base version in the administration area of your shop.

General information about product types

You can define different product types in the administration area of your shop – for example, "Shoes", "Books" or "Watches". You can also define properties for each product type, which are called attributes. Possible attributes for the product type "Shoes" would include "Size", "Colour" and "Material".

These attributes enhance the default settings that each product has (e.g. item number, name, or description).

After you have assigned a product to a product type, you can specify the corresponding attributes for that product.

To configure the settings for product types, go to the main menu in the administration area, select Product, and then Manage product types.

For more information on product types in the Now version, refer to the article Product types and attributes.

Transferring product types when updating from Base to Now

When updating from Base to Now, the product types and attributes from your shop will be transferred (with the exception of attributes of the type "File").

However, note the following:

  • In the Base version, you had many different types available for attributes (e.g. "Text", "Date" and "Integer"). In the Now version, the types have been simplified for better usability, and there are only the types "Text" and "Text with value selection".
  • Attributes belonging to the "File" type will be deleted.
  • As in the Base version, attributes in the Now version can also be used to create your own search filters, which will then be shown to your customers in the shop. This function has been updated. You will find more information on this in the article Use search filters for your shop.

Checking product types

Select Products and then Edit product types in the administration area of your Now shop. In the table, you will find all the product types defined in your shop. Select one of the product types to check its attributes and other settings.
