Update from the Base to Now version: What to do when you can't create the new shop?

As not all features from the old shop version are supported by the new shop version, you might need to make some changes before you can update your shop. If this affects your shop, the Create new shop button will be disabled. Furthermore, you will see an error message with information about the required changes above the Create new shop button.

In the following you will find more detailed information about the different changes. Note that not all of them might affect you. The error message will only appear if you are affected by any of the errors and will only contain information about changes required in your shop.

Info

Remember that there are more differences between the Base and Now version. For more information and to get an overview, read the other articles about the Update from the Base to Now version.

Updating your currency settings

The Now version only supports one currency: the official currency of the shop country. Therefore, you'll need to reduce the number of currencies in your shop and only keep the one that matches the currency of your shop country. Note that the feature Currency selection is not available in the Now version. If you would like to keep a currency that differs from your shop country or more than one, you can not update to the new version at the moment.

If you haven't added the currency of your shop country in your shop, you'll need to add it before you can update to the Now version. Follow the steps below to add the currency of your shop country in the Base version:

  1. In the main menu of the administration area, select Settings → Country settings.
  2. Select Currencies.
  3. Select the currency of your shop country from the drop-down menu.
  4. Select Save.

If you have more than one currency in your shop, you'll need to remove any currencies that differ from your shop country before you can update to the Now version. Follow the steps below to delete any currencies that don't match the currency of your shop country in the Base version:

  1. In the main menu of the administration area, select SettingsCountry settings.
  2. Select Currencies.
  3. Select any currency that doesn't match your shop country.
  4. Select Delete.
  5. Confirm your choice by selecting Delete again.

The number of currencies in your shop has been reduced to one that matches your shop country.

Reducing category levels

The Now version supports up to four levels for categories. Shops with more than four category levels can not update to the new version. Therefore, you'll need to remove any subcategories that are deeper than four nesting levels. For example, in a category path like Clothing > Jacket > Women > Outdoor > Cotton you'll need to remove the category "Cotton".

For further information on categories in the Now version, refer to the article Managing categories.

Remember to add all products from the subcategories you want to remove to a different category to keep them visible in your shop.

Follow the steps below to restructure your shop categories in the Base version:

  1. In the main menu of the administration area, select Content/Categories → Content Preview.
  2. Select the category you want to remove in the page navigation on the left-hand side.
  3. Select Delete page in the multifunction bar at the top.
  4. Select Save in the multifunction bar at the top.

The category has been removed.

Reducing attributes for variations

The Now version supports a maximum of three attributes for variations of a product. Shops with more than three attributes for variations can not update to the new version. Therefore, you'll need to remove any affected products and re-add them with a maximum of three attributes.

For further information on attributes in the Now version, refer to the article Product types and attributes.

Caution

After the update, the product URLs of your old shop will redirect to the new URLs. Note that this doesn't apply for deleted products. If you delete a product, any external links to the product will no longer work.
Remember to re-add any deleted products with a maximum of three attributes in the Base version or in the Now version after the update, if you want to keep them in your shop. For further information on adding products in the Now version, refer to the article Managing products. Note that it can be useful to re-add any affected products before deleting them. This way you can transfer the needed information like pictures, prices, and other product settings more easily.

Follow the steps below to delete the affected products:

  1. In the main menu of the administration area, select ProductsProducts.
  2. Select all affected products.
  3. Select Delete.
  4. Confirm your choice by selecting Delete again.

The products have been deleted and thus, the number of attributes used for variations have been reduced.

Reducing customer groups

The customer groups feature in the Now version differs from the one in the Base version. There are two errors related to customer groups that you might encounter. You can either have too many customer groups or the customer group feature is not available for the package of your new shop.

  • The Now version supports a maximum of 20 customer groups. Shops with more than 20 customer groups cannot be updated to the new version. If you see the respective error message in your shop, you'll need to reduce the number of customer groups before you can update to the new version.

Proceed as follows to reduce the number of customer groups in the Base version:

    1. In the main menu of the administration area, select CustomersCustomer groups.
    2. Select the customer group/groups you want to delete to comply with the limit.
    3. Select Delete.
    4. Now you have two different options:
      • Assign the customers of the deleted customer groups to another customer group instead. To do so, select the first option in the Warning message and choose the new customer group in the drop-down menu.
      • Do not assign the customers of the deleted customer groups to another customer group. For this, select the second option in the Warning message.
    5. Confirm your decision by selecting Delete again.

The customer groups have been deleted.

  • Customer groups are not available for every shop package of the Now version. If you see the respective error message in your shop, you'll need to delete all customer groups before you can update to the new version.

If you want to continue using this feature, you may need to change the package version of your new shop. Contact your provider for further information.

Proceed as follows to delete all customer groups in the Base version:

    1. In the main menu of the administration area, select CustomersCustomer groups.
    2. Check the respective box in the top bar to select all customer groups.
    3. Select Delete.
    4. Confirm your decision by selecting Delete again.

All customer groups have been deleted.
